Round Rock is easy to move in and easy to get wrong, usually for the same reason: it looks uniform from a map and is not. Most of the housing sits inside master-planned communities with published rules about commercial vehicles, and most of the traffic funnels through an I-35 corridor that has been under sustained reconstruction long enough that residents stop noticing the cones.

Neither is difficult to work around. Both punish a mover who shows up without having asked.

Direct answer: Two things decide a Round Rock move. First, what your homeowners association permits: which entrance a commercial vehicle should use, where it may stand, how long it may stay, and whether any hours are restricted. Second, what I-35 and its frontage roads are doing on your date, because closures shift and a route that worked last month can cost half an hour now. Get the association rules in writing, check current construction close to the date, and send both with your inventory.

Short answer: what to sort out before a Round Rock move

Ask your association three questions in writing: where may a moving truck park, for how long, and are there restricted hours or a preferred entrance. Then check the current state of I-35 and the frontage roads for your date, because construction closures in this corridor move and the frontage roads are one-way with spaced turnarounds. If your house is in one of the older streets near downtown, add a fourth check: mature tree canopy over the curb, which can keep a full-height truck from parking close even where the street is wide enough. Send all of it with a room-by-room inventory.

Master-planned communities and their rules

Most of the newer housing here sits in communities like Teravista, Paloma Lake, Behrens Ranch, Forest Creek, and Mayfield Ranch, and each association sets its own terms for vehicles that are not residents' cars.

What varies: whether a commercial vehicle uses the main entrance or a service entrance, how long it may remain, whether it may stand on the street or must use the driveway, and whether early or late hours are restricted. Some associations want advance notice. Very few of these rules are onerous. All of them are easier to satisfy when the request goes in a week early rather than the night before.

Community development in the city is administered through Round Rock Planning and Development Services, though the day-to-day access rules for your street come from your own association rather than the city. Ask the management company directly and get the answer in writing.

I-35 and the frontage roads

The corridor through Round Rock has been rebuilt in stages for years, and the practical effect on a move is twofold.

Closures change. A route planned at booking may not be the route on the day, and the current picture for the district is published by TxDOT. Check within a week of the date if your schedule is tight.

The frontage roads are one-way. Missing a turnaround means continuing to the next one and coming back, which on a loaded truck is several minutes each way rather than a quick correction. Where a building or association has given you a fixed window, that margin matters. City street and traffic operations are handled by Round Rock Transportation, and roads outside the city limit fall to Williamson County Road and Bridge.

The toll alternatives are worth pricing rather than dismissing. SH 45 and SH 130 can beat the interstate depending on where you are going, though a loaded truck pays by axle.

The older streets near downtown

Round Rock predates its subdivisions, and the streets around Old Town behave nothing like Teravista.

Lots are narrower, driveways are shorter, on-street parking fills earlier, and the trees are considerably older. A wide street with a mature canopy can still be unusable for a full-height box truck at the curb, which pushes the truck further away and lengthens the carry. Houses here are also more likely to have entry steps and tighter interior turns than a 2015 build.

If your address is in this part of town, photograph the street looking both directions and the front entry, and measure the narrowest door on the route.

Corporate relocations

Round Rock has a substantial employer base and a steady flow of people arriving for work rather than choosing a city. Those moves have a specific shape: a start date that cannot move, a temporary address in the middle, and often a household arriving from out of state.

If that is your situation, the useful thing to flag early is the sequencing. Whether the household goes into the new address directly or through an interim stop changes the plan and the estimate substantially, and it is much better decided in advance.

The Round Rock pre-move checklist

  1. Request your association's rules on commercial vehicle access in writing.
  2. Confirm which entrance a moving truck should use and whether advance notice is required.
  3. Ask whether any move hours are restricted, including weekends.
  4. Check the current I-35 and frontage road construction picture within a week of your date.
  5. Note the nearest frontage road turnaround in each direction from your address.
  6. Photograph the street, the driveway, and the front entry.
  7. On older downtown streets, note tree canopy height over the curb space you expect to use.
  8. Write a room-by-room inventory with large and fragile pieces called out separately.
  9. Set utility start and stop dates at both addresses.

Where Pro Alliance fits

Send both addresses, your date, a room-by-room inventory, and your association's access rules. The team reviews both ends and prepares a written estimate for the actual scope. See the Round Rock movers page or the Austin movers page, then use the free estimate form.

Frequently asked questions

Does my HOA need to approve the moving company?

Some associations want advance notice or the vehicle registered, and some only publish rules about where and when. Ask your management company and send whatever they tell you with your quote request.

How much time should I allow for I-35 construction?

Rather than a fixed allowance, check the current closures close to your date and build the arrival window around what you find. If your destination building has assigned you a fixed loading slot, say so and the route is planned accordingly.

Can a full-size truck park on my street in Old Town?

Often yes for width, but mature tree canopy sometimes prevents it. Photograph the curb space looking up as well as along, and the team will confirm whether the truck can stand there or needs to stage further out.

Do you handle office moves in Round Rock?

Yes. Office and commercial relocations are planned around inventory, building access, and the schedule the property manager will approve, and decommissioning at lease exit can be quoted alongside.

Can you move me from Round Rock to another Texas city?

Yes. Intrastate moves run under the company's TxDMV authority and use the same inventory and access review as a local job. Send both addresses and your date.
